And it’s Fall

Nice View.
I haven’t written anything here in awhile. I haven’t meant to neglect this space. It’s just, you know…life. Back in May, I had a deadline for a manuscript that was fast approaching. Not just a deadline but one where I had a lot more words to write than I had time to write them in. Then there were a couple of months of edits and suddenly I looked up and it was the end of August. While life was lifeing my Mother in Law moved in next door to us and that ate up a little time.
I managed to get back to Substacking and now today, the first day (more or less) of fall I am back here.
I am not a natural blogger. I can’t imagine that anyone wants to read about the food I cook or the restaurant I ate in. I detest politics and no one cares, nor should they about my political opinion. As for religion, while, like my late father said; “There are two things that one should never discuss at a cocktail party. Politics and religion.” That pretty much sums up my feeling about writing about them too. Besides, this platform and my Substack exist for me to engage with readers, not pontificate.
My goal is to get back to writing here with more regularity.
But by the time you read this it will be the first official, or near enough day of fall. My favorite season is upon us when wood smoke hangs in the air at night and sweaters are retrieved from the backs of closets. It’s a glorious season. Fall really started last Saturday night. Instead of transitioning gently from one season to the next it was as though someone flipped a giant switch. Saturday itself was a mild day. Pleasant and sunny, neither too warm nor too cold. Saturday night was a different thing altogether.
I had finished writing for the night and went to make myself something for dinner. The big windows in the Florida room were wide open and the door from the kitchen to the Florida room let plenty of fresh air in. Dinner wasn’t overly complex, a ham sandwich on baguette. While preparing this culinary masterpiece it occurred to me that it was cold and I should shut the big windows. By the time I closed the kitchen door I was shivering. By the time the sandwich was made and a whiskey was poured I was shivering with gusto and for the first time since early May I needed a sweatshirt.
And like that it’s fall.
And I’m back here writing.
It’s good to be back.
